Pro|Active System Monitoring from Start IT Servers monitors you business critical systems round the clock to ensure maximum uptime and availability. It monitors the resources on your system to ensure they stay within operational limits. The moment the thresholds are breeched or an error is detected on your monitored systems our engineers are immediately notified and can begin to analyse the problem, the cause and the resolution. This proactive monitoring can enable us to resolve issues before you even know there is one.

 

Probe Software

The monitoring server is based on a probe that installed on a computer or server on your network. The probe collects all the vital information from your network using SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) and sends it, encrypted to our Central Monitoring Centre.

 

Benchmarking

Before effective monitoring and alerting can begin the software needs to ‘learn’ what the normal levels of resource and system usage is on your network. During this process our engineers will constantly monitor and adjust the alert levels to ensure a minimum level of false positive alerts.

 

Alerting

For clients who have purchased the Pro|Active System Monitoring Service as part of our SUPPORTED247 Plan or a managed service our engineers will be notified immediately and start to work to resolve the issue. For clients who have not purchased management the service can be configured to email or SMS contacts of your choice.

 

Response

Alerts can be raised any time throughout the day and night. Unless you have opted for 24 hour management and support resolution of the issue will not begin until the start of the next valid support period as per your Service Level Agreement.

 

Monitoring the Probe

When the probe is installed it will be setup to notify us and a contact(s) of your choice if it losses connection to our Central Server. When an alert is received stating that a probe is down we will immediately investigate, if it is down to the client server or the connection to the internet from the client site we will contact the client during Office Hours.

 

Regular Reporting

We will email your chosen contact a report of all the devices monitored. This report can be generated daily, weekly or any other period you require.

 

Client Access

You will be issued with a user id and password that will enable you to log on to our monitoring software and view the devices being monitored by the probe and the current status of the resources and any alarms. If you are a SUPPORTED247 client you will be able to view all issues via the Help Desk.

 

Does it generate excessive network traffic?

Data transmitted to the central server is compressed prior to transmission this means that 60 devices being polled every minute will transfer approximately 2.8MB.

 

How is it installed?

Pro|Active System Monitoring is remotely installed and configured by Start IT Services technicians on the computer / server of your choice. Once configured you will be issued with a user id and password for the Client Login site to view what is monitored.

 

Is it secure?

128bit SSL encryption is used during communication between the probe and central server ensuring that the data cannot be intercepted.

 

Do I have to configure my firewall?

The server runs on port 443 a standard internet port so there is no need to reconfigure your firewall.
